If You Can’t Visit Harrah’s, Play Online

July 6th, 2012

When thinking of visiting a casino, the first place that probably comes to mind would be Las Vegas, even more so if you live on the Western side of the United States. However, being from the mountains of North Carolina, you may think of Harrah's casino and hotel in Cherokee. This may not be something that you think about when you think of an Indian reservation such as Cherokee. The advantage to visiting Harrah's in Cherokee is that you would be able to not only stay at the hotel and casino, but also venture out and experience Cherokee for yourself, visiting the reservations and even do some trout fishing if it is in season.

There are many outdoor activities that you can enjoy while staying at Harrah's in Cherokee. There are many hiking trails, streams to fish, golf courses to play, and rivers to canoe. This can provide you with more entertainment than you can get from the indoor casino that could provide you with hours of play, if you allow it and have the budget for it. Most of the outdoor activities also provide you with entertainment with little to no expense. If you play your cards right, you may come out with more money than you had going in!

You may choose to play cards, the slot machines or other games that are set up throughout the casino or try them all! It is a good idea to practice the card games before arriving, this is not a place where you want to learn how to play considering your money is at stake and could potentially be lost because you did not know how to play. It is a good idea to try to check out what other games you may be interested in playing before visiting any casino so that you get your money's worth out of the game and hopefully make some too.

There are many different Harrah's casinos to choose from if your closest location is not in North Carolina. In fact, if you do not live near this area, it is probably more likely that you have casinos closer to you, considering that it is illegal to gamble in North and South Carolina. Even if you do live in North Carolina but have already visited Cherokee or are looking to get out of the state, you have many options of being able to get away while visiting a casino hotel. In fact, there is are casino hotels in most major cities in the US, so all you have to do is take your pick!

If you don’t live close enough to play casino games in person, you can still have fun by playing them online at sites like www.justcasinos.co.uk. Visit these great sites to read reviews of the most popular online casinos on the web.

3 Tips for Social Networking and Non-Profit Organizations

June 28th, 2012

Running a non-profit organization can be a very rewarding experience, but it can also create some real headaches. The fact that you’re funding will also be limited makes promoting your organization complicated. The good news is that social networking can be a free and easy way to promote the things you’re trying to do to make the community a better place to live.

The odds are pretty good that there will be at least one volunteer who has some experience with social networking; you want to take advantage of these people. The task will make them feel like an important part of your organization, and you’ll be able to focus on the aspects you’re more experienced with. Just keep in mind that you don’t want to simply assume that they’re doing their job, you need to regularly check up on the volunteers and make sure that the networking is happening, and that you know what’s being said with regards to your organization.

While you can control the things said on your official networking channels, it won’t take you very long to discover that fans of your organization will create their own pages. It’s in your best interest to align yourself with these fans.

You need to make sure all participants and volunteers have signed all release forms, including a photo release form. You need to keep these in a safe place. Being able to get your hands on these forms could save you the headache of facing a potential lawsuit if a photo of someone gets posted on one of your social networking sites. You’ll want to keep these release forms forever.

The most important thing to remember when it comes to your non-profit organization will be to use common sense.

Why Facebook Can Make Us Unhappy

April 19th, 2012

I have read several articles on Facebook and discontentment lately, and they tend to ring true. Social networking has a lot of great benefits that are hard to ignore, but there are some definite negatives that definitely make people question whether having an account is even worth it.

One of the reasons that many people use social networking sites is to connect and share with others in their lives. That in and of itself is a great thing. Where it can become a problem is when we spend more time investing in social networking than we do actually interacting face to face with people. Or if we start to look at those we connect with on Facebook, and compare our lives to theirs, even if we aren't necessarily close to them.

Even if we are already content with our own lives, we might see the exotic trips or vacations that our Facebook ?friends? are taking, read about their weekly date nights, or see all the wonderful things that they appear to be doing ? and start to feel restless and dissatisfied with our lives. Even if we are perfectly happy. The old green eyed monster starts to rear its ugly head, and we begin to wish for a life that we only know in photos. We don't know the debt they went into to take that vacation, or buy that house, or the heartache that comes from working to pay for it all instead of being with family.

I have certainly cut back on my Facebook use in recent weeks, and I am happier for it. I am more aware of actually spending face time with people versus screen time. I want to use Facebook in healthy ways, and for the right reasons.

The Big Face Off: MySpace vs. Facebook

February 7th, 2012

Facebook started out in 2004 as a utility to facilitate Ivy League college kids staying in touch with each other. It exploded into a full blown application for everyone; since 2006 all that is required to join is a valid email address. To date there are approximately 69 million Facebook members around the world. What started as a simple idea to keep friends connected has evolved into one of two main social networks connecting people with one another today.

MySpace currently boasts approximately 110 million accounts. Statistics indicate that almost 230,000 new accounts are created daily; a large amount by any standard. MySpace is the largest social networking website online; on the surface it would appear to be significantly more popular than Facebook. However, researching deeper reveals that most MySpace members maintain more than one account.

The non-restrictive nature of MySpace has led to it being named as #1 of the 25 worst websites ever (PC World). Also with the geometric growth in members, MySpace servers can crash during peak use hours leading to dreaded error messages such as “This error has been forwarded to MySpace’s technical group”. Many users honestly believe that MySpace does not have any technical support.

Facebook is more restrictive than MySpace; Facebook does not allow users to write HTML or CSS whereas MySpace does. Prohibiting the use of HTML and CSS circumvents errors such as those encountered on MySpace. Users are free to comment and upload pictures but they are prohibited from customizing their pages with error ridden code renowned for shutting browsers down and causing computers to freeze.

Another important difference between the two giant networks is security. Facebook strives to maintain strict security whereas MySpace has been somewhat nonchalant in its approach to safety and security. Only after a security breach did MySpace put measures in place to protect its members.

Personal preference is perhaps the deciding factor in determining which social network is best; look carefully at what each has to offer and join whichever meets your needs. Then again, why not join them both?

Is MySpace Enjoying Its Final Days?

November 16th, 2011

There was a time when MySpace was the hottest thing around. It seemed like the only thing that anyone could talk about was MySpace and how wonderful it was. At the time, online social networking was still a fairly new concept and everyone loved how easy MySpace made it for them to connect with friends and loved ones.

Everything was perfect, but then Facebook came along. It was easy to use, seemed to be really secure, and college students seemed to prefer it over MySpace. Since the college students loved, they talked their friends and family members into creating their own account. For a while everyone kept up both their MySpace and FaceBook accounts and things still seemed to be okay for MySpace.

At the same time that FaceBook was starting to gain a lot of interest, it seemed like MySpace was hit with a great deal of scandal. First they had to deal with the fact that some of the people who had created accounts were actually pedophiles. This wasn’t really MySpace’s fault, but it did cast a pall over the site. At about the same time, it also ran into trouble with some serious spam issues. The two problems happening so close to one another helped make FaceBook look even more appealing.

The odds are pretty good that in the future MySpace is going to have to shut down. The more social networking sites that are developed, the harder it is for MySpace to attract new accounts. Even worse, many of the people who had MySpace accounts have started to delete them. Right now it seems that the only people who are keeping MySpace going are musicians who find MySpace easier to use than the other major social networking sites.

Meet the MySpace Girl

May 16th, 2011
Kate is an average girl. She loves social networking and connecting with her friends. She took a class in high school about graphic design and from there her talent in that area soared. With some encouragement from her parents, Kate began an online business designing Myspace profiles. She started with her friends and then set up her own website. As a senior in college, Kate had a steady business of her own. Since Kate already loves being online she often plays games on bingo sites to fill her free time. She enjoys playing the game and finds time to play it often. She prefers to stick with the no deposit bingo sites where she can play with no risk. Every penny Kate makes she saves. She plans on moving out on her own after college and wants to do more than just get by. She knows friends who have moved out on their own and then had to return home to their parents. Kate does not want that to happen. She wants to make her parents proud. Kate’s family takes an annual vacation every year to a small island on the Atlantic Ocean. Kate looks forward to going every year and spending time with her twin brother and parents. While on summer vacation Kate always takes her laptop and enjoys Wonderbingo and sands of fortune slots. She plays at leisure and enjoys relaxing. Wow bingo is fun to play and she even talks her brother into joining in on the fun. They enjoy the friendly competition and each other’s company. Kate’s dad tells her of a new site he heard about at work that just launched at  landmarkbingo.co.uk and they all take a turn checking it out. While Kate is designing Myspace profiles for an order she received, her brother plays sands of fortune slots and Wonderbingo. He has always claimed to carry all the luck in the family. No deposit bingo has been fun for him to play as well. After dinner, the family enjoys a walk on the beach and look for sea turtle nests. Kate spots a nest and they excitedly watch as a few of the eggs are hatching and the baby sea turtles make their way toward the ocean. Although they have been to the beach many times, this is the first time they have seen sea turtle eggs hatch. Kate marvels in the beauty of this and is so glad she was there to watch. She knows she will remember this for the rest of her life. Kate’s mom remembers hearing the buzz about the new bingo site earlier that day and asks where it was. Kate helps her mom pull up landmarkbingo.co.uk and mom gets started. She says that she really enjoys playing and can see why her kids were so excited about it as well. Kate has another design order come in and while she gets to work on it, her mom puts her feet up to play a few bingo sites as well. Read More

A Quick Look at the Young MySpace Community

May 10th, 2011
MyspaceWhen someone joins MySpace they have the opportunity to create a profile reflecting their interests, likes, dislikes and personality. They are able to link to friends’ profiles, send messages by mail, have a chat on IM, or leave comments for each other. They can also upload pictures reflecting their likes and dislikes and create their own blogs for self expression or to share their thoughts and stories with others. With a global membership in the tens of millions the web site is one of the top online choices for teens. MySpace is more than just a place for friends to hang out. It’s a place where teens build relationships with their peers. On the bottom of every MySpace page is a link to Safety Tips which is a guide for online safety for both parents and members. Illegal, harmful and offensive material is forbidden according to MySpace’s terms of service. Just by simply clicking a link, members are able to inform MySpace of any content, such as offensive images, words or spam, violating the rules of the community. Members must be at least 14 years of age so if you find your less than 14 year old child has an account, simply notify MySpace and their profile will be deleted. If your child is under 16, by default, their profile is set to be seen only by MySpace members on their friends list. Information and photos as well as being able to contact them is only open to members they know. Also, adults are blocked from being able to contact them unless they know the younger member’s email address or last name. Members under 18 may not take part in group discussions regarding selected mature topics. As the younger members navigate throughout the MySpace site they will come across more safety tips designed with them in mind. MySpace is devoted to hands on investigating any possible underage users. The kids under 14 that lie about their age will have their profiles deleted. MySpace has partnered with Law Enforcement officials and has a rapid response team on hand and available to intervene as needed year round, seven days a week, 24 hours a day for the protection of your children.   Read More

Make a Custom MySpace Background from Your Photos

April 2nd, 2011
PicturesMySpace is more than just a social network.  Since it was overhauled in 2010, MySpace has become the hottest new place to show off your photos, display your favorite music, and talk to your friends.  Although it is a bit more involved than using their default settings, you can install a MySpace background to customize your profile by using the codes from pre-made templates.  If you don’t find a template you love, you can even make your own background image.  Here are some simple steps to help you create a unique background for your MySpace profile. In order to create a background from one of your favorite photos, you need to upload your photo of choice to an image hosting service. Many people use PhotoBucket because it is free and easy to use. You can use any site you like, but for the sake of keeping it simple, these steps will involve PhotoBucket. Please make a note of the fact that the most common screen resolution is 1024 x 768, so when choosing your background picture it would be a good idea to select a background picture that is about the same size but at least 800 x 600 pixels for the best results.  Once you have your chosen your picture, either log onto PhotoBucket or go ahead and register for free if you haven't used the site before. Once you are signed in, proceed to the green "Upload Now" button. Choose your picture’s file from the "upload from" button and then select “Upload”. When the picture finishes uploading, click on "choose action" above your image. Select "Generate link codes for selected" and when the box pops up, under ‘HTML for websites and blogs, click on “full size“. A message will flash to let you know the code was copies to your clipboard. Once you have copied the URL for the image to your clipboard, you can exit the PhotoBucket site.  Log into your MySpace account and go to the "Edit My Profile" button. Paste the code into the very bottom of the "About Me" section under any information you have entered previously,  making sure to leave a space between the code and the text you have entered. Click on "Save All Changes" to save your selection. Now click on the "View My Profile" button located in the upper right corner of your Profile “Edit” screen. When your profile page opens, you should see your new photo as the background behind your information.  If the picture is blurry, you might need to choose a higher resolution photo.  If you have other issues, check with the MySpace “help” options or email their technical support service for help.  You will soon have a beautiful new background that is customized to your personal preferences.  Sit back and enjoy your fine-looking new background. Great job! Read More

Making the Internet a Safer Place

March 18th, 2011
Internet SecureAs a parent it is important to be vigilant when your children go online. As strange as it may sound, it is possible that your children could be sharing personal information on themselves and your family without realizing it through membership on MySpace.com. This is not due to any fault of MySpace and your children probably doesn’t realize how much personal information is revealed just by filling in their membership profile. Your children could be sharing your home location, personal pictures and other information on the Internet for anyone in the world to look at and utilize in any way they choose. MySpace has over eighty million members and you need to get acquainted with how it works in order to protect your children. Designed to garner the attention of the under 21 demographic, it has turned out to be the ‘have to do it’ fad for just about every teenager in America. You need to be vigilant no matter what social networking site your children participate in. It is highly likely that at this moment your child’s profile contains enough information for a predator to be able to friend them while posing as another child or someone with the same interests as your child. MySpace makes every effort to monitor over 80 million sites and ensure unsuitable material is removed but they need your help. It’s simple for a child predator to look at your child’s site and see pictures, their personal information and age, comments and information on their friends, and anyone else published to a public page on MySpace. The browse function will allow everyone, even non members, to search and locate all the males or females in a school or zip code and search by age or any other parameter they choose. This isn’t something to take lightly or get around to when you have time. More and more children are home alone for longer periods and the computer is everyone’s method of communication. When your child gets online to chat with friends, they are prime candidates for a predator and it’s not hard for a stranger to pose as someone they aren’t to gain your child’s trust. Most parents assume that by teaching kids not to talk to strangers, the child knows better than to chat with a stranger online.  Don’t be fooled by this myth! Most kids view MySpace as totally safe and they are trusting by nature.  They see online chat as a harmless way to have fun, flirt, and make new friends.  What began as a meeting place for kids now encompasses the entire world! Please look at your child’s profile, MySpace page, and personal information. See what the predators see and make the changes necessary to keep your children safe.  Always be sure your kids set their profiles to private and teach them the basics of internet safety before they ever go online. Read More

MySpace is Still Topping the Charts

February 11th, 2011
up the chartsAs everyone is aware, MySpace is one of the most popular social networking websites that offers an interactive network of friends you choose and who choose you. Once you have created a personal profile you are able to start a blog, join groups, and post photos, music and videos for viewing or reading all over the world. The center of operations is the head office located in Beverly Hills, California in the US and they share the building with their immediate owner which is Fox Interactive Media. The owner of Fox Interactive is News Corporation and their headquarters is located in New York City thus making them the owners of MySpace through their ownership of New Corporation. Alexa Internet has MySpace currently rated as number six in the world for the most popular English-language websites. They are also rated as the sixth most popular website in any language and in the US they are the third most popular website, but there have been occasions when they reached the top of the chart on different weeks. MySpace has slowly increased their status in the midst of similar websites to attain nearly 80% of the visits to online social networking websites. It has become a gradually more significant component of our modern-day popular way of life, particularly in countries speaking English. On October 27, 2010 the new MySpace launch began. This event symbolized not merely the release of a top to bottom refurbished design, but also the beginning of a deep-seated modification of focus for the website that had at one time been the world’s most popular and unsurpassed social network. MySpace offered a totally overhauled interface to its users involving everything from the homepage and profile options to the Topic Pages. The focus was on renovating MySpace from merely a social network into a community entertainment destination. They currently have focused solely on the thirteen to thirty-five year old demographic also known as Generation Y. The goal of MySpace is to appeal to the needs of everyone.  It offers fun social opportunities for teens and business networking possibilities to adults.  Whether you use MySpace for work or play, you will enjoy the new and improved format. Read More
